Keeping Jesus at the Centre
With Christmas coming fast round the corner. As much as we want to put off thinking about it, for as long as possible: you know, it won’t be long before someone asks you; ‘What are you doing for Christmas?’
Planning can take the stress out of the season and allow you to enjoy the festivities. But planning gifts and meals, isn’t as important as planning how we will reflect on the birth of Jesus. In line with our core values, we want to keep Jesus at the centre of all we say and do.
Like jars of stones and sand. If we put the most important things in first, (the large stones) the smaller less important things will fit around them. However, if we allow the less important things to crowd our lives first, we’ll struggle to fit in what’s important.
This year advent starts on the 30th November, so before this you may want to consider what you might read, watch, or do to focus on the coming of Christ? Perhaps you could follow an on-line devotion, borrow an advent book from a friend or church, or simply commit to read through the Christmas story? Our Carol Service this year is right at the beginning, the 7th of December. It’s a great way, amongst the tinsel and the lights, to remind ourselves what this season is about. Another thing to consider in advance, is how God might use you in this season, what opportunities he may put before you to serve those less fortunate, to share the good news, and invite other into the kingdom.
So why not put aside time now, before you get overwhelmed, to put in the most important things, before life fills all the gaps.
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
